Athabasca Seasons

Audrey Weldon Reid

Memoir

Athabasca Seasons is a warm collection of short stories that pays tribute to the comfort of family and the power of nature. Audrey Reid brings to life memories, both joyous and painful, of a childhood spent on a farm in Depression-era Alberta. She explores her adult life as well, from her early years as a teacher, to her later years of marriage, the devastating loss of her child, and the rewards of retirement.

Colouring her memories is the beautifully evoked setting of the Athabasca River region - the raging waters of spring and the wheat in the fields. Audrey is an inspiration, confronting her past with both courage and humour.

ATHABASCA SEASONS — Reviews

David Paul in Town and Country, August 2003: To Athabasca with love from Audrey
"I have always looked back on my childhood with fondness. My memories of this period are like the Athabasca River, which winds its way near the land that was my family’ s homestead in Alberta. In the summer the river is clear, flowing gently between sloping banks. My pleasant reminiscences are like the serene river when a slight breeze ruffles it, making the sunlight sparkle on the surface.
