The Scottish Airds arrive in New Brunswick when the author is eight. At fourteen the author leaves school to care for her family on the farm when her mother dies. Later she marries Lloyd, a farmer and lumberman. Every winter they spend in a lumber camp, where Wilhelmina would cook for thirty men. During this time there was very little money but she and Lloyd managed to put all of their children through university. During the rest of the year, life is on the farm with their children. Accidents, fires, lumber camp, Beulah Camp, are all in this tale of family, friends and home.
